Teach2Learn Workshop Series
The graduate students in the College Teaching Certificate is hosting a series of five disciplinary-based workshops designed to enhance teaching within the disciplines. The workshops are open to all graduate students and faculty, with a special emphasis for those graduate students and faculty within the targeted discipline. Graduate students and faculty may attend individual sessions or all of the them. Below are the workshop sessions.
The Adult and Higher Education Program in the Department of Education at MSU offers a Certificate in College Teaching to develop and promote exemplary teaching among graduate students, aspiring faculty, and current faculty wanting to enhance their teaching skills. The goal of the certificate is to make individuals more competitive in the job market as instructors and faculty members at colleges and universities.
Teach2Learn 1: Starting the Conversation about Scholarly
Teaching Goals: The main goal of this workshop is to start a general conversation about scholarly teaching and creating a teaching community. The attendees will gain an understanding of the contemporary teaching-learning landscape, learn practical tips for a successful first day of class, learn how to implement hands-on activities in your classroom, and how to start and sustain quality discussions.

Teach2Learn 2: Starting the Conversation about Scholarly

Teach2Learn 3: Classroom Assessment Techniques for Physics
Courses Goals: Classroom Assessment Techniques (CATs) are simple activities to assess how well course learning goals are being met. In the workshop, participants will learn about a variety of CATs that assess the most common goals of physics courses. Then, participants will gain practice in applying these CATs to physics-specific case studies. Participants will receive a packet of resources to additional literature, including particularly useful publications from the Physics Education Research (PER) community.

Teach2Learn 4: Practical Proposals for Effective Practice: Teaching and TAing in Chemistry
Goals: This workshop will focus on deconstructing the common problems and scenarios that Chemistry and Biochemistry professors and TAs often face in their classes and labs. Using these common situations, we will look into strategies for creating a practical feedback loop between yourself and your students that will enable you to mitigate problems, understand what your students are thinking and learning, and improve your ability to adjust your teaching goals and strategies to best suit your course or lab.

Teach2Learn 5: Today's College Students: How to Relate, Connect, and Work with an Ever-Changing Population of Students
Goals: Today's College Student workshop will address matters that today's instructors face on a day-to-day basis in the college classroom. Topics discussed will include diversity in the classroom, common mental health issues, and technology. The workshop will also include how our own biases and backgrounds can play a role in how we react to students.
