Parking Meter Trial
Parking Services announces that beginning Thursday, May 23rd 2013, we will be conducting a trial use of smart parking meters in several short-term (30 minute) parking spaces. This trial will be conducted in the Hamilton Lot. Currently, we have a number of parking spaces across campus that are managed as short term parking (15 or 30 minutes).
Monitoring and enforcing those spaces has become a time intensive process. After considering various short-term parking options, MSU's Parking & Transportation Advisory Committee endorsed the concept of moving to smart meters for management of these short-term spaces which will allow us to monitor individual spaces to determine usage patterns and how best to tailor those spaces to the specific needs of our customer base. The result will be a better managed and more convenient short-term parking experience. The trial period will run through the end of June and will consist of two meters in the Hamilton lot.
At this time, the meters will only accept credit/debit cards (no cash or coins). Parking Services is investigating the use of Cat Cards as a payment option in the future. The cost will be 50 cents per 30 minute period; time will be limited to 30 minutes and the meters will not accept payments for extension of time. Parking Services would like to hear from those using the meters about your experience. We can be reached at 994-2121 or you can email Kurt Blunck, Parking Manager, directly at email@example.com. If you have any questions, please call University Parking Services at 994-2121.
