Yellowstone Engraved: The Art of William Henry Jackson, Thomas Moran and Others.
Museum of the Rockies, Hager Auditorium
In keeping with the theme of our Welcome to Yellowstone! exhibit, MOR is pleased to present art historian Lee Silliman of Missoula who will share his knowledge of some of the earliest images ever made in Yellowstone National Park. Prior to the congressional recognition of the park, artists such as William Henry Jackson and Thomas Moran had accompanied the Hayden Expedition to document the region's wonders. Their works, presented to Congress, helped move leaders in Washington to officially recognize the nation's first national park. Lee Silliman has collected the works of Jackson and Moran for decades and will share his insights on their importance to spreading the word about the beauty of the American western landscape.
