The film is a captivating documentary that follows the life and work of the Ski Patrol at ski resorts throughout Montana as they respond to winter emergencies in the unforgiving backcountry of the Rocky Mountains. Offering perspectives from both Ski Patrol and snow scientists, this film captures the passion behind these demanding careers while also captivating audiences with breathtaking views of Montana's untamed winter landscape. Discover how the still-developing art of snow science, along with educated prediction and a bit of luck, saves the lives of the countless backcountry explorers who flock to Montana in ever-increasing numbers each year.
Filmed with state-of-the-art control time-lapse systems, this film delivers the captivating and inhospitable scenery of Montana's winter mountains. Using small HD cameras for portability, crews were able to access remote locations to bring the authenticity necessary to immerse the viewer in the lives of those who work these challenging jobs. Join these men and women as they trek into avalanche prone terrain and patrol the virtually inaccessible backcountry slopes.
Carson Garner, the director and producer of Snow Guardians, will be available to receive any questions or comments regarding the film during the screening. Garner has traveled the world for over 14 years capturing photographs far off the beaten path. In addition to being an accomplished documentary photographer, producer and filmmaker, he is an accomplished entrepreneur and frequent angel investor. He has also founded several technology companies, including his latest startup, ProPic, a social photo portfolio for professional photographers and videographers.
A post-film reception will be held in the Leigh Lounge after the screening.
