Registration is now open for a statewide summit on childhood hunger, set for Sept. 23-24 at Montana State University.
"Build a Stronger Montana: End Childhood Hunger Statewide Summit" will highlight the experiences of hungry children in Montana, showcase best practices for helping hungry children and demonstrate pathways to ending child hunger in the community. It will also promote community groups, provide networking opportunities and show the connection between hunger and children's health and their futures.
One in five Montana children struggle with hunger, and research shows that the absence of childhood hunger is linked to children's success in the classroom, overall health and well-being, family stability, and self-sufficiency in the future, according to event organizers.
The summit begins Monday, Sept. 23 with welcoming remarks from MSU President Waded Cruzado and Montana Governor Steve Bullock.
The summit's opening keynote speaker is Lori Silverbush, co-director of the movie, "A Place at the Table," is the summit's keynote speaker. "A Place at the Table," examines the issue of hunger in America through the lens of three people struggling with food insecurity and shows how hunger poses serious economic, social and cultural implications for our nation.
"A Place at the Table," will be screened at 7 p.m. on Sept. 23 and followed by a discussion led by Silverbush and her husband, Tom Colicchio, producer and Emmy-nominated "Top Chef" judge.
