Screening of "Good Food"

Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 7:00 pm
Bozeman, MT, Public Library

Award-winning filmmakers Mark Dworkin and Melissa Young will be in Bozeman to screen and discuss two of their documentary films that address solutions for economic and ecological sustainability.

"Good Food," a documentary about ways to increase the supply of local, sustainably grown healthy food, will be screened at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Bozeman Public Library, following a Good Food Fair, which begins at 6 p.m. The film's screening is also free and open to the public, and Dworkin and Young will also be available after the film is shown to answer questions.

Dworkin and Young are principals of Moving Images, a non-profit production company that has been promoting global justice and environmental protection since the late 1980s.

Jan Strout, an instructor in MSU's College of Letters and Science who helped bring the Seattle-based filmmakers to Bozeman, said she believes Bozeman audiences will relate to Young and Dworkin's work.

"Moving Images' body of work spans a variety of economic and environmental and sustainability issues and solutions from local and global perspectives," said Strout, who has also been involved in working with several national and international non-governmental organizations. "We think their messages will have resonance with our community and we're excited to have (Dworkin and Young) here in Bozeman."

"Good Food" documents the work of small family farms, farmers' markets and other sustainable food systems in the Pacific Northwest , and showing that it is possible to make a similar system accessible in other regions of the country. The film features original music from nationally known cellist and composer Jami Sieber, plus Mark Graham, Los Emocionantes and Jack Knauer, and colorful urban and rural images. Their previous productions have won prestigious awards from CINE, Houston, Media That Matters, Chicago, NW Film and Video, Women in Film/Seattle, Prix Leonardo, International Wildlife Festivals and many others. These films are in broad circulation in academic and community settings and have been broadcast nationally on PBS stations.  To learn more about the filmmakers, go to http://www.movingimages.org/
