Jazz Band Holiday Show - Jeni Fleming & Ryan Matzinger

Friday, December 13, 2013 at 7:30pm
Howard Hall, Reynolds Recital Hall

Area jazz fans will have a rare treat when two of Montana's premier performers, songstress Jeni Fleming and Ryan Matzinger, Grammy-winning jazz musician and saxophone instructor at Montana State University, perform together in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at Reynolds Recital Hall on the MSU campus.

Also performing at the concert will be the MSU One O'Clock Jazz Band, under the direction of Matzinger, followed by the Jeni Fleming Combo of Chris Cundy, John Sanders, Adam Greenberg and Sean Lehmann, featuring Matzinger.

Fleming is fast becoming one of the West's most sought-after musicians known for her vocal virtuosity and style.  A graduate of the MSU School of Music, Fleming has carved out a niche in Bozeman as a touring and recording artist, a vocalist in several area bands, a private music instructor and the co-founder of Hand Me Down Some Silver, a nonprofit that raises money to support young musicians in Gallatin County.  With seven albums and many cross-country tours, Fleming has performed as a vocalist at many major music festivals across the Northwest and into Canada including Jazz Montana, Jazz at the Depot, and JazzFest International in Victoria, B.C. where she opened for famed pianist Dave Brubeck.

Matzinger is a singer-songwriter, jazz saxophonist, recording/touring artist, teacher, producer and studio engineer who was born and raised in Bozeman. He lived and recorded on the East Coast and in Southern California where he studied and performed with music legends. He is one of the last remaining members of the iconic rock group Ike Turner and The Kings of Rhythm, with whom Matzinger performed with on the Grammy Award-winning album, "Risin' With the Blues."  He was the first performer at the inaugural Jazz Montana concert. He currently serves as the president of Jazz Montana.

The MSU One O'Clock Jazz Band is an audition-only ensemble that represents MSU's strongest music students in the area of jazz. The group consists of both music majors and majors from other departments on MSU's campus.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.  Tickets for the one-night concert are $19 for general admission, $13 for students. Tickets are available at Cactus Records. Tickets are also available online at:
