International expert on solar energy to visit MSU Jan. 8, 10

An international expert on solar energy will be featured in a series of events at Montana State University on Jan. 8 and Jan. 10.

John Perlin will give a lecture on solar energy at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at the Museum of the Rockies' Hager Auditorium. On Friday, Jan. 10, he will also present a campus seminar from noon-1 p.m. in Reid Hall 108 and sign books from 1:15-3 p.m. at the MSU Bookstore. All events are free and open to the public.

Perlin's lecture will be based on his latest book, "Let It Shine: The 6,000-Year Story of Solar Energy," which covers solar energy's history. He is also expected to explain how solar energy can benefit Montanans.

Perlin's other books include "A Forest Journey: The Story of Wood and Civilization" and "From Space to Earth: The Story of Solar Electricity." He is also a physics professor and coordinates the California Space Grant Consortium at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In addition, he has lectured extensively in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.

Perlin's visit is sponsored by the MSU Campus Sustainability Advisory Council, Montana Renewable Energy Association and City of Bozeman Climate Partners.
