Recycled fashion show, 'Junk 2 Funk,' set for Feb. 28
Strand Union Building, Ballrooms
Engineers Without Borders at Montana State University, a student-run organization that provides clean water to schools in Kenya, will hold its sixth annual recycled fashion show, "Junk 2 Funk," at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 28, in the MSU SUB Ballrooms. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for a silent auction, cash bar and raffle.
At the fashion show, students, community members, and families will parade their outfits constructed out of recycled items ranging from milk jugs to inflatable pool toys. People attending the event are encouraged to wear their own homespun creations. Music will be provided by a disc jockey. Prizes for best outfits will be awarded.
Tickets for MSU students and children under 12 are $5. All other tickets are $12. One raffle ticket is included with admission. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Tickets may also be purchased in advance at Cactus Records or from EWB members at a table in the SUB near the entrance to the Union Market between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 25, through Friday, Feb. 28.
All event proceeds will benefit MSU EWB students' volunteer-led work in rural western Kenya. Since 2004, more than 100 MSU students from many disciplines and majors have traveled to the Khwisero District of Kenya, where they have built 10 deep-water wells and 13 composting latrines in an effort to decrease the rate of waterborne illnesses.
