Lunch with Leaders in Engagement

Thursday, March 20, 2014, from 11:45am to 1:00pm
Strand Union Building, Room 233

What does it mean to be an "engaged university"? According to the Carnegie Foundation, engagement is the collaboration between a university and its local, state, national, and global communities for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity. Join us for this lunch with several of MSU's leaders in engagement representing a variety of disciplines. The informal discussion session will allow you to ask these leaders about successes and challenges they have experienced with engagement over the years. The theme of the month for the Year of Engaged Leadership, Stewardship, will provide a foundation for table discussions. Engagement Leaders: Diana Cooksey, Land Resources & Environmental Sciences; Florence Dunkel, Plant Sciences & Plant Pathology; Ada Giusti, Modern Languages & Literatures; Jan Strout, College of Letters & Science; Kathleen Byrne, University Studies and College of Letters & Science; and John Townsend-Mehler, post-baccalaureate student, Biological Sciences. Facilitator: Marilyn Lockhart, Center for Faculty Excellence. Lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m. and the session will begin at 12:00 noon. Registration is required by 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, Mar. 19; to register, go to
