Black Box Theatre
The Honors College and the College of Arts and Architecture, in collaboration with Montana Shakespeare in the Parks, are pleased to present two performances of "The Robben Island" to the university and Bozeman communities, on April 15 and 17th, 2014 at 7:30PM in the Black Box Theatre on the corner of 11th and Grant. This 45 minute play is based on underlined passages in a copy of the collected works of Shakespeare, shared by prisoners on Robben Island during the apartheid era in South Africa. The playwright, Matthew Hahn will travel from the UK for this event, as will four actors from US theatre companies. Admission is free but seating is very limited. This event marks the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare's birth (April 23) and the 20th anniversary of the democratic election in South Africa (April 27). This play will open a conference on 20 years of Democracy in South Africa at Oxford University later in April.
