School of Music Gala Concert

The School of Music at Montana State University will present its second annual Gala Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 25, at The Commons at Baxter and Love west of Bozeman.

The concert, a benefit for the School of Music, will feature performances by music students, MSU students from other disciplines and music faculty. Jeremiah Slovarp, an MSU graduate and founder of Peach Street Studios, will provide sound and light design for the event.

 Works will range from hot jazz to exciting percussion and brass ensembles. The gala will feature a performances by the One O'clock Jazz Band led by Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Ryan Matzinger, MSU saxophone instructor, and the MSU Wind Ensemble, led by Nathan Stark, MSU music professor and director of bands. MSU professors Tobin will conduct the School of Music Symphony Orchestra and Tim Dueppen will lead the Brass Choir.

Joining the larger ensembles will be the Cello Ensemble, directed by professor Julia Cory, and the Horn Ensemble directed by Sherry Linnerooth, horn instructor. Professor Stephen Versaevel will lead the Percussion Ensemble. 

Music Technology students of professors Jason Bolte and Linda Antas will perform their award-winning compositions. 

Also featured will be four choral ensembles: MSU Youth Chorale, directed by instructor Kristin Harney, MSU Chorale and Montanans directed by Kirk Aamot, vocal professor, and the University Chorus, directed by professor Jon Harney.

A large orchestra comprised of faculty and students and four choirs will join forces for the grand finale.  

Tickets for the event are $20 for general admission, and $10 for students. Advance tickets are available online. The remainder will be sold at the door.
