The Montana State University community is invited to a celebration of the retirement of Rolf Groseth, chancellor of MSU Billings, set for 4 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in the atrium of the MSU Billings SUB.

Groseth, who spent 33 years at MSU on the Bozeman campus prior to being named chancellor at MSU Billings in 2010, has announced his retirement at the conclusion of the current academic year.

Groseth served in a variety of executive positions at MSU in Bozeman after he arrived in 1977 as the director of student activities. He was also dean of students, vice provost for students affairs, executive assistant to the president, and the MSU System coordinator.  Groseth served as the MSU vice president of inter-campus affairs, working to provide coordination among executive officers on the Bozeman, Billings, Great Falls and Northern campuses of the MSU system, the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education and the Montana Board of Regents. He was interim chancellor at MSU Northern in Havre from January 2008 to August 2009.

Previously, Groseth worked as executive assistant to the MSU President from 1994 to 2004 and had extensive student affairs experience at MSU in Bozeman from 1977 to 1994 and before that at the University of Florida and Georgetown University. Groseth also served two years in the U.S. Army, including a 12-month tour of duty in Vietnam. The Chicago-area native has a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University where he was also an All-American in swimming. He earned his master's degree from Iowa State University and his doctorate from the University of Florida.

He is married to Jaynee Drange Groseth, who retired last fall as executive director of the MSU Alumni Association following a 38-year career at MSU.
