Four finalists for the position of MSU Legal Counsel will visit campus and hold public meet and greet sessions April 27-29.
G. (Guilherme) Costa
Costa will hold a meet and greet session on Monday, April 27, from 4-5 p.m. in the Alumni Lounge near the northwest entrance of the SUB. As associate general counsel at the University of Idaho Office of General Counsel, Costa advises university administrators on all areas of the law, with particular emphasis on student affairs, purchasing and contract services transactions, litigation and other regulatory/compliance issues. Costa has a law degree from University of Notre Dame Law School and bachelor’s degrees in business administration and political science from the University of Florida. View CV
MSU’s Legal Counsel serves on the Montana University System five-member legal staff, reporting to the Chief Legal Counsel located in Helena, as well as to the president of MSU. In addition to serving the MSU Bozeman campus, Legal Counsel also serves the three affiliated campuses – MSU Billings, Great Falls College MSU and MSU Northern – as well as the Montana Agricultural Experiment Stations, Extension Service and Fire Services Training School. Legal Counsel is responsible for managing the institution’s legal affairs, including advising on legal rights, obligations and related matters. Legal Counsel also provides legal advice to the Commissioner of Higher Education, campus president and chancellors/CEOs, manages matters in litigation, and supervises both inside and outside counsel. Legal Counsel often serves as liaison to regulatory and legislative bodies, courts and attorneys general.
