McNair Scholars Program Information Session

Director, Dr. Shelly Hogan will give an overview of the features of the McNair Scholars Program which is designed to assist and support qualified students with their goal of successfully applying to graduate school. The McNair Scholars Program is nationally recognized as a graduate school preparatory program that offers undergraduate students from all academic disciplines opportunities to excel academically. The program facilitates each student's successful application to graduate school and better equips them with confidence, knowledge and skills for meaningful and relevant contributions to their professional career endeavors. The program is funded by a grant though the US Department of Education.
Some of the benefits of the program include: financial support through summer research stipends, summer tuition waiver and paid summer room waiver for students living on campus; personal development through paid registration and travel for presenting research at academic conferences, public speaking opportunities and writing assistance for personal statement and graduate application essays; in depth-academic advising for graduate school preparation through Fall Seminar series and paid GRE preparatory workshops; assistance with the graduate school application process through paid travel to visit graduate schools; graduate shool application assistance and graduate school application fee waivers; and educational and cultural field trips such as visits to Yellowstone National Park, the Butte Folk Festival and Pow-Wows.
Eligibily criteria includes undergraduate students who are: low income (based on federal requirements) and first-generation (neither parent earned a bachelor's degree before student's completion of high school OR from an underrepresented minority group (e.g. Native American, Latino, Alaskan Native, African American).
