The Hero(ine)’s Journey: A Conversation with the World and A Call to Character(A Talk by Dr. Thomas Donovan, Honors College)The Hero’s Journey was ushered into popular consciousness by mythologist, Joseph Campbell, in his book The Hero with a Thousand Faces. Here it became clear that this journey has been enacted across cultures throughout the world. Spanning the eons it has taken on archetypal proportions, which means that it lies within our very DNA awaiting inspiration. Now, over 60 years since its publication, what does the twenty-first century hero’s/heroine’s journey look like? On a planet percolating with great beauty and great tragedy, what role might the hero’s journey play in responding to and engaging with the issues of the day? This talk is an invitation to re-imagine this adventure in the context of our times. Join us.
