Wonderlust Friday Forum: What's In My Water?
- Friday, December 11, 2015 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm
- Bozeman, MT
Join Wonderlust, a lifelong learning organization affiliated with MSU's Extended University, for a free Friday Forum.
Tammy Swinney, District Manager for the Gallatin Local Water Quality District, and Lain Leoniak, Water Conservation Specialist for the City of Bozeman, will address short and long term water quality and quantity issues in the Gallatin Valley during their program, “What’s in My Water?” The Gallatin Valley is a special place and our natural resources are valued by all who live, work, and recreate here. As our valley continues to experience growth and development pressure, our water resources are subjected to these pressures as well. Our water quality is directly impacted by each individual’s actions; either directly or indirectly. We will explore the current status of both groundwater and surface water quality in the valley and contemplate how our future actions could worsen or improve this valuable resource.
Tammy has served on numerous local and state committees including the Technical Advisory Committee for the City of Bozeman’s Integrated Water Resources Plan and currently serves on the board of the Greater Gallatin Watershed Council, Montana Wetland Protection Advisory Council, and is past president of the Montana Section-American Water Resources Association. Tammy has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences with an emphasis on water resources and molecular biology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
As the Water Conservation Specialist for the City of Bozeman, Lain engages in the development of a water conservation plan in order to reduce overall water consumption. She currently focuses on community relationship building and education and outreach efforts, and she also has expertise in Western water law, surface and groundwater policy, drafting water related statutes, ordinances and rules, and evaluating numerous consumptive uses in water short environments to maximize efficiency and prevent waste to create future supplies.
