In theory the project of ‘reclaiming’ Danforth will awaken the space with an open event for students and faculty. The event will be broadcasted throughout campus as a gathering to uplift the campus spirit. Words such as; mental health, mental illness, or anything with a negative connotation will not be used to advertise the event. However the event will cultivate awareness of mental health and strategies to cope with issues that arise. Students will be able to engage with each other in dialogue about personal and interpersonal integrity. The Danforth building will provide the space, we will provide the atmosphere of openness and spread a sense of accessibility. No one will be subjected to judgement or harassment in this open space for spiritual or religious practice. An initial intro station will allow students to create a name tag with a spirit animal, write down a small note about what has held them back that week, then they will walk into a space for open discussion and available resources. Discussion will be the central part of this event and the hosts will have prepared appropriate questions to keep conversation focused and in depth. There will also be a section for sound healing through the medium of tuning forks, done by Elise Headley as a professional Acutonics practitioner. After the event students will have made connections with resources and fellow students and know of the Danforth chapel as a space for judgement-free safe spiritual or religious practice.
