Bozeman's Jewish Film Festival continues with the presentation of The Green Prince. The film screening is free and open to the public. The screening of the film begins at 7 pm in the Procrastinator Theater.
An amazing scenario played out over a ten year period in Israel. The Shin Bet (Israel's internal security agency) was able to capture and turn into a spy the son of one of the co-founders of Hamas. That, alone, is complicated enough but then add to it that the young Palestinian--his code name was The Green Prince--in addition to his dangerously subversive activities, arranges to have his father arrested "in order to protect him".
And that's not all. We watch as the development of the relationship between the young man and his Shin Bet handler evolves into an enduring loyalty that places each in unusual circumstances. The "L.A. Times" said: "...intense and fascinating...takes unforeseen turns even the best of novelists would have trouble imagining". This documentary opened the 2014 Sundance Festival and won that year's Sundance Film Festival Audience Award in addition to winning the same accolade at the 2014 Moscow International Film Festival. As the "Hollywood Reporter" described it: "...A thriller-like documentary. Full of incredible twists. Emotional.".
This event is sponsored by Congregation Beth Shalom and the MSU Diversity Awareness Office.
