The Jake Jabs College of Business & Entrepreneurship will hold a Venture Pitch Competition for all 430 students in BGEN 194, Business & Entrepreneurship Fundamentals, on Wednesday, Dec. 14, from 10:00 am to noon, in SUB Ballrooms A, B and C.
This event is free and open to the public.
The competition is the culminating event in the College’s freshman seminar in which students hone their creativity, innovation and critical thinking skills by brainstorming an idea for an innovative product, developing a prototype, and writing and presenting a feasibility plan for their idea.
During the competition, each of the 23 sections of the class will display their idea in a poster presentation. In addition, a panel of local entrepreneurs will select three finalist teams to present their idea in an oral presentation, and will award prizes for best idea, best written plan, best oral presentation, and best poster presentation.
Students will also vote on a Students’ Choice Award. Product ideas range from apps to consumer products and even a medical device.
The preliminary schedule for the competition is as follows:
Judges circulate among student tables to view displays of prototypes and plans
Judges decide on 3 finalists to make oral presentations
3 teams make presentations (5 min. pitch, 5 min Q&A each, 5 min. between presentations for set-up)
Judges decide on winners
Judges announce winners, make awards
