Wonderlust, a lifelong learning program affiliated with MSU's Extended University, offers a four-week non-credit course on Spanish Modernism from Goya to Picasso.
The third course in my exploration of Spanish Art, after Islamic Spain and the Hapsburg Golden Age, will continue to look for a particular ‘Spanishness’ in art, beginning at the end of the 18th C with the extraordinary career of Francisco de Goya, considered the father of Modern Art in Spain and beyond. We will follow his and others’ influences and inventions through the 19th and early 20th C to the devastating Spanish Civil War and the excitement of Surrealism in response to political and social upheaval. Major artists discussed include Gaudí, Dalí, Miró, and, of course, Picasso. Participation in other courses on Spanish art is not a prerequisite!
Four-week course taught by Dede Taylor Cost:
$97.50; Wonderlust members save $35
