EDU 332. 9 credits. Summer Term
Children’s Literature, Young Adult Literature, and the Creative Arts are powerful means for exposing young people to global perspectives and ideas of diversity and tolerance. Further, these three content components are important vehicles for exploring cultural and historical knowledge, personal and social values, and literary as well as artistic themes. As connections begin to be made, contextual understandings uncover deeper meanings that make content not only memorable, but also transformative. All three components of this course are foundational to effective literacy teaching in grades K-12. Specific knowledge and skills for these content areas are described in national and state standards as well as in Common Core Standards.
