Mitch Vaterlaus, assistant professor in family and consumer sciences, will give the next College of EHHD Outstanding Faculty Lecture titled, "I Do and I Understand: Helping Students DO more in the classroom."
Vaterlaus' research focuses on two major areas--identifying best practices in providing relationship education for minority populations and family life education, and examining the role of new media and technology on family and human development. Some research projects in this area include discovering how parents monitor adolescent and young adult technology use, motivations for text messaging in young adulthood, and understanding the connection between health and social media use in young adulthood. Vaterlaus has published numerous journal articles in the area of interactive technology (social media).
Vaterlaus received the 2016 Outstanding Faculty Award for Teaching in the Department of Health and Human Development.
