Marcella David is Professor at the College of Law, Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University and previously held the position of Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University. Prior to moving to Tallahassee, Dr. David was Associate Dean and Professor of Law and International Studies at The University of Iowa (Iowa) College of Law. Marcella joined the Iowa Law faculty in 1995. At Iowa, she also served in the university’s central administration as Iowa’s first Special Assistant to the President for Equal Opportunity and Diversity, Associate Provost for Diversity and Associate Dean of Admissions.
Marcella earned her B.S., cum laude, in Computer and Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1986 and her J.D., magna cum laude, from The University of Michigan Law School in 1989. From 1991-92, she studied Human Rights and Comparative Law as a Ford Foundation Fellow in Public International Law at the Harvard Law School. Her research interests include the use of economic and other sanctions, international criminal law, and questions related to international organizations.
In addition to serving as a Ford Foundation Fellow at Harvard, before starting her academic career at Iowa, Marcella clerked for Judge Louis H. Pollak of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, was a litigation associate at the New York law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, and visited at the University of Chicago School of Law where she taught Contracts and Equal Protection. She has also visited at The University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. David’s international destinations include Iraq, South Africa, Europe, India, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, Cambodia, Uganda, Antarctica, the Arctic, the Galapagos Islands and Cuba, and her hobbies include travel, photography, and knitting. Marcella is considered a legal scholar in international law and is a member of the New York Bar Association.
