BOZEMAN – Ayana Ledford, a nationally renowned wage negotiation expert, will lead a three-hour wage workshop at Montana State University on Sept. 14.
“Navigating Negotiation: Clearing the Hurdles to Make the Ask” is set for 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Strand Union Building Rooms 233 and 235. Tickets to the symposium are $5 for students and $10 for the general public. Space is limited and registration, which closes on Sept. 11, can be found at https://tinyurl.com/ybblnv2c.
Ledford is the co-founding executive director of PROGRESS, which has a mission to empower girls and women through the art of negotiation. Ledford has worked as a health education instructor in Africa, recently served on the Athena Awards host committee and was a founding member of the Sankofa Fund of Southwest Pennsylvania.
“Ayana will help the MSU and Bozeman community learn how to overcome the wage negotiation hurdles that are present in the workplace, especially for women,” said Carmen McSpadden, director of the MSU Leadership Institute, one of the sponsors of the workshop. “A priority for our community is the cultivation of confidence among college-aged women when it comes to asking for what you are worth.”
Ledford’s appearance also is sponsored by the Women’s Foundation of Montana and several other MSU entities, including the Office of the President, the Office of the Provost, the Associated Students of Montana State University, the Allen Yarnell Center for Student Success, the College of Engineering, the College of Health, Education and Human Development, the Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship, the College of Nursing, the Department of Political Science and the Women’s Center.
The event is held in conjunction with the Leadership Institute’s 20th anniversary celebration. The institute’s mission is to inspire “MSU students to become leaders who serve as catalysts for positive change” through hosting world-class speakers and leadership workshops. Notable past speakers include Sir Ken Robinson, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Maya Angelou and Condoleezza Rice, among many others.
