Dr. Elliott Barnhart is a research hydrologist (microbiologist) at the USGS Wyoming-Montana Water Science Center in Helena, MT. Elliott also holds an appointment in the Center for Biofilm Engineering where he collaborates on a number of projects related to coal bed methane, water quality, and pathogen detection.
Elliott's talk “Moving Microbiology and DNA Analysis Out of the Lab and into the Field with New Technology,” will highlight a new down-well sampling technology that has provided insight into processes occurring in subsurface coal beds, as well as near real-time DNA analysis technology that could be implemented at streams or lakes for rapid detection of aquatic species of concern.
