Tracy Award ceremony
- Friday, May 4, 2012 at 7:00pm
- Bozeman, MT, The Ellen Theater
The Tracy Award ceremony, the Montana State University School of Film and Photography's version of the Oscars for senior student film projects, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, May 4, at Bozeman's Ellen Theatre. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
Thirteen films will be in contention for the awards, which combine elements of the Oscars and People Choice Awards.
This year, audience members will have a chance to view all of the films in their entirety during screenings set at 6 nightly from April 30 to May 2 in MSU's Procrastinator Theater, which is located in the Student Union Building.
During the Procrastinator screenings audience members may fill out a ballot on categories such as "best costume design," "best cinematography," and "best picture." Admission to the screenings, during which audiences may vote on the films, are $2. An additional non-voting free screening will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at The Procrastinator.
Additional awards presented at the Tracys include the Bruce Moore Award to exemplify helpfulness and motivation in the department, as well as an outstanding faculty member award.
While the films are the thesis projects for the senior class in the film option of the MSU School of Film and Photography, the collaboration extends from freshman and beyond, to other departments across campus.
"The Tracys are one of the few times that everyone in town can really see what it is that us film students have been working on," said Justin Smith, director of the short "One Man Show." "I feel like a lot of times students know MSU has a film school, but they don't know exactly what that entails. This is a great way to take a break from finals and see some movies made by fellow students."
Tickets for the Tracy Award ceremony are $15 for adults, $12 for students. Ticket sales open on May 18 and are available at http://www.theellentheatre.com or by calling (406) 585-5885
