Complexities of Qualitative Research

Tuesday, October 23, 2012 from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Reid Hall, 126

Dr. Betsy Palmer, associate professor of educational research & statistics in adult and higher education, will discuss insights into qualitative methodology that she gained while conducting an ethnographic study of schooling in a remote area of eastern Nepal.  Dr. Palmer will discuss the ethical implications of employing accepted western qualitative methods in a non-western cultural setting.  She will also describe several context-specific challenges that will have  a lasting influence on  her methodological decision-making for studies both at home and abroad.

Dr. Palmer spent academic year 2011-2012 on sabbatical in Nepal conducting her research.
