India Night: A celebration of Diwali
Strand Union Building, Ballrooms
Montana State University's Indian Student Association will celebrate Diwali, the traditional Indian Festival of Lights, with a banquet of traditional Indian food and entertainment set from 5:30-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, in the MSU Strand Union Ballrooms.
The celebration, which is open to the public, will include presentations about India, a variety of entertainment including music and dance, and Indian food prepared by members of the ISA.
The MSU Indian Student Association has sponsored India Night for five consecutive years. Diwali is a significant festival in Hinduism Sikhism and Jainism, celebrated on the first day of the lunar Karita month, where the lights represent the victory of good over evil. As the last harvest of the year is finished, prayers for a good year ahead are made.
Tickets to the event are $8, and will be sold from 12-2 p.m. on Nov. 13-16 at the ISA information table near the Ask Us Desk in the Strand Union. There will also be a limited number of tickets available for purchase from the Diversity Awareness Office.
MSU India Night is sponsored by the Indian Student Association, the MSU Diversity Awareness Office, the Office of Student Activities and Engagement, the Office of International Programs and Tipu's Chai.
