What Couples Living Together Need to Know About Estate Planning
If you are living together there are a variety of estate planning tools that can be used to protect your "live-in" or to provide a legacy for other family members depending on your estate planning goals. This session of Solid Finances will provide information about the distribution of property if a couple is living together but neither have written a will. Dr. Marsha Goetting, MSU Extension Family Economics Specialist, will also highlight Montana court cases that have resulted in "live ins" being considered under Montana as "married" and thus subject to state intestacy rules...in other words the "live in" was considered as a surviving spouse and had rights to inherit property.
