Are you hungry for change? Help those less fortunate in the Gallatin Valley by taking part in the Hunger for Change Fast-a-Thon. Each year, thousands of people in our country go hungry because they cannot afford food on a daily basis. In an effort to help remind us what it feels like to truly be hungry because of poverty, The Muslim Student Association (MSA) at MSU is holding the fourth annual Fast-a-thon on January 17, 2013.
On this day, members of the Bozeman community are encouraged to voluntarily abstain from food and drink from dawn until sundown in an effort to remember those in poverty. At sundown, participants are invited to join in a meal to break their fast and be audience to a presentation about the relevance of fasting in Islam and the issue of hunger in our own community.
MSA encourages participants to donate to the Gallatin Valley Food Bank and will be collecting donations for the Food Bank leading up to the Fast-a-Thon. Participants and supporters may wear an orange ribbon to raise awareness of hunger on that day, which can be picked up at the information tables which will be set up in the Strand Union Building in the Union Market on January 14, 15 and 16 from 11 am -1 pm.
To sign up for the fast, or become a sponsor please visit www.montana.edu/diversity, or visit the Diversity Awareness Office at Montana State University, Strand Union Room 368.
Participants attending the community meal are encouraged to donate what they would have spent on food for the day, or a non-perishable food donation for the food bank. The meal to break the fast will be at 5:00 pm in Strand Union Ballroom A. All funds raised will be donated to the Gallatin Valley Food Bank.
