Great Falls, MT

Lecture 3: Hunter Lloyd, MSU, "How to Train your Robot"

Before he became a college professor, business owner, inventor and author, Hunter Lloyd was a standup comic who toured the country with acts including Jerry Seinfeld and Tim Allen.  No joke, Lloyd put his undergraduate accounting studies on pause for years in order to pursue life as a comedian on the road, in clubs and on television.  After completing a business degree, Lloyd moved to MSU to study engineering and computer science, fields which eventually led him to robotics.  He will tell you "How to Train your Robot."  He is an award-winning professor of robotics at MSU, where his students have outperformed schools including Carnegie Melon and Harvard to capture robotics championships.  In 2012 at the Robot Olympic Games in San Francisco, Lloyd and his robot, Looney, won five medals - the most received by any one robot at the event attended by more than 500 robots from around the world.  Also a robotics entrepreneur, Lloyd's company helped develop the RangeWatcher and WatchKeeper technologies for the Predator Unmanned Aircraft Group.  As a professor at MSU, Lloyd combines his skills a robotics engineer and comedian to inspire students to follow their dreams in the fields of math and science.  As a speaker, Lloyd and his robots demonstrate that, with math and science, anything is possible.
