14th annual Tracy Awards set for May 3
Bozeman, MT, The Ellen Theater
The Montana State University School of Film and Photography's 14th annual Tracy Awards, celebrating the best of senior thesis films, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Bozeman's Ellen Theatre.
The red carpet event encourages the public to join MSU students, faculty, and judges in celebrating the class of 2013's senior thesis films in a festive atmosphere.
For the first time since the Tracy's inception, the 12 films produced by the students will be judged and will receive feedback from professionals in the film and television industry. The judges include prominent MSU alumni, Mark Vargo and Scott Chestnut, as well as CEO of Artists New Media, David Pickeral. Vargo is an Academy Award-nominated member of the American Society of Cinematographers, while Chestnut has edited a number of feature films and commercials.
This year's films range from dramas to comedies. Plots vary from a photographer confronted with an unethical situation, to two men performing brain surgery with the help of Google. The winners of awards such as "best cinematography" and "best picture" will be announced Friday evening, as well as a showing of the top five films.
Audience members will have a chance to view all 12 films in their entirety during screenings set at 5 p.m. nightly from Monday, April 29, to Wednesday, May 1, in MSU's Procrastinator Theater. The Procrastinator is located in the MSU Student Union Building. Admission to the screenings is $2. An additional free screening will be held at 1 p.m. May 3 at the Black Box Theatre in the Visual Communications Building, located at the corner of 11th and Grant.
